Ukraine
Ukraine located in the central part of the East Europe.
In the north it borders with Byelorussia, in the south and
a southwest - with Hungary, Romania and Moldova, in the
east - with Russia, in the west - with Poland and Slovakia.
Southern coast of Ukraine washes by Black and Azov starve.
The general area makes 603,7 thousand sq.km.
Capital of Ukraine - Kiev. The administrative-territorial
device of Ukraine consists of Autonomous republic Crimea
and 24 areas.
Ukrainian flag is made of two horizontal strips of blue
and yellow colours. It represents the mature wheat growing
under the blue sky.
August, 24, 1991 Ukraine has declared the independence.
Ukraine is sovereign and independent, democratic, social,
a lawful state. Ñommon bases of the state order of
Ukraine are determined by the Constitution of Ukraine.
Ukraine is a unitary state which territory is complete and
inviolable. In the state uniform citizenship is established.
A state language in Ukraine is Ukrainian.
The head of the state - the President. Uniform regulatory
authority in Ukraine is the parliament – Verhovna
Rada of Ukraine.
Higher body of executive authority is the Cabinet of Ministers.
Legal base of its activity is the Constitution, laws of
Ukraine and the acts given by the President.
The supreme judicial body is the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
The Population of Ukraine - approximately 49 million persons.
By quantity of the population Ukraine occupies 5 place in
Europe (after Germany, Italy, the Great Britain, France)
and 21 place in the world. The urban population makes 68
%, rural - 32 %.
Prevailing religion in Ukraine is the christianity submitted
by orthodox, protestant and catholic faiths. In much lesser
degree are submitted judaism and an islam.
The Relief of Ukraine mainly flat. 95 % of a waterless
valley make plains, 5 % of mountain. In the extreme west
of Ukraine Carpathian mountains are (the highest point -of
mountain Goverla - 2061 metres), and in the extreme south
- Crimean mountains (the highest point - mountain Roman
Kosh - 1545 metres) the Greatest river of Ukraine - Dnepr,
which general length makes 2201 km.
Bowels of the Ukrainian ground are rich by various minerals
among which coal, iron ores, petroleum and gas, a stone,
salt etc. the Nature of Ukraine has created a rich raw-material
base for the metallurgical, chemical, porcelain, faience
industry, manufacture of ceramics and building materials.
The great value is made with mineral waters of Ukraine which
sources settle down in Mirgorod, Svaljava, Truskavets and
Feodosiya.
One of natural resources of our state is its ground, 2/3
which chernozems make. According to experts, in territory
of Ukraine the quarter of global chernozems is concentrated.
The flora of Ukraine totals about 30 thousand plants.
Climate of the country is temperate. Winter is rather moderate,
without serious frosts, with snowfalls everywhere except
for the south. The rivers and lakes freeze in winter. The
average winter temperature changes-20C in the north and-3-5C
in the south. Summer rather hot and dry, rains and thunder-storms
are seldom. Because of favorable climatic conditions, Ukraine
- traditionally agricultural area. In Ukraine raises wheat,
corn, different kinds of a grain, vegetables, fruit and
berries.
Ukraine In Ukraine such kinds of the industry as heavy
mechanical engineering, black and nonferrous metallurgy,
shipbuilding, manufacture of buses, automobile and lorries,
tractors and other agricultural machinery, diesel locomotives,
machine tools, turbines, aviation engines and planes, equipment
for power stations, the oil-and-gas and chemical industry
etc are advanced.
Ukrainian language was recognized as an official language
in Ukraine in 1990, changed Russian. The most part of the
population of East Ukraine and Kiev speaks in Russian. In
the Western Ukraine the Ukrainian language is most distributed.
In this connection mass media, politics and businessmen
use both languages, but all official documents are published
in the Ukrainian language. The lesser part of the population
speaks in foreign languages - basically in English.
Ukraine is located in two time zones (2 hours of a difference
with Greenwich in 24 areas, including Kiev, and 3 hours
of a difference per Autonomous republic Crimea). Transition
to summertime is carried out on the first Sunday of April
(at one hour forward), on winter time - last Sunday October
(on 1 back).
National monetary unit of Ukraine - grivna. To exchange
foreign currency for grivnas is possible in banks and in
many exchange offices. The most widespread foreign currencies
in Ukraine is the American dollar and euro. Exchange in
the street at private persons is illegal and may be dangerous.
Use of credit cards is distributed in Ukraine, but not all
organizations accept them for payment. The majority of hotels,
restaurants and shops accept cards for payment. A provisional
rate 100 dollar - 530 grivnas, 100 euros - 610,00 grivnas.

By new customs rules of Ukraine, only subject filling out
the declaration , which all customs houses of the world
demand to declare without fail (the weapon, drug preparations,
historical and cultural values etc.), and also the goods
subject to the taxation (that is transported at a rate of
commodity sets). Everything else it is possible to declare
orally. Any person crossing border, has the right to import
food stuffs for the sum which is not exceeding 44 dollars
or 50 euros. Quantity and names of food stuffs are declared
orally though on occassion customs officers may demand to
make the written declaration from the citizen.
Two basic companies of mobile connection in Ukraine - UMC
and Kyivstar.
A principle of work and cost of services of these companies
is almost identical. You buy a card and insert it into your
phone. Also you may buy the new phone with a card.
Tariffs for Proceeding bells - approximately 0.50 $ one
minute in Ukraine, but may be 0.20 $ if you cause the subscriber
of the telephone company which you use.
